Erasmus House is a renovated seventeenth century house, a Belgian historic monument, located off the street in a quiet court yard off Geldenaaksebaan in Heverlee (Leuven) Belgium. It was originally part of a larger complex called DEN ENGEL ("The Angel") which once belonged to the neighboring monastery of Park Abbey, founded in 1129. When Erasmus was at Park Abbey, the complex was an inn and brewery.....Later rebuilt in the current form.
A few years ago two families bought the complex and divided the property. Dr. Bart Viaene and his family own one large house, which they have renovated in a more contemporary style. Dr. John Dick and his family own two adjacent houses that they have kept in more traditional style: the Erasmus House and their own home which is attached to it. The three houses share a quiet central courtyard. The Erasmus House itself dates back to 1672.
The Erasmus House is a twenty minute walk from the center of Leuven. There is adequate and safe parking two minutes from the house. The city bus stops a few feet from the front gate. A bank, bakery, pharmacy and butcher/deli are all within a two minute walk from the house.
The house is completely furnished with a fully equipped kitchen; central heating and cable TV and wifi Internet. Renters who wish a phone need to make separate arrangements for that and pay their own phone costs. (All wiring for a phone installation exists but the phone was removed a couple years ago because most renters now use their own cell phones.)
It is a two level house: the downstairs has a kitchen, WC and shower, living and dinning. Upstairs has two bedrooms and additional WC and shower. Hot and cold water are in each room. Towels and bed linens are provided. Gas (heating), water, electricity, cable TV and wifi Internet all included in monthly rent.
Renters are expected to take care of their own cleaning and laundry. They have use of a washing machine and dryer.
Monthly rent, to be paid by no later than the first day of
each month, is 990 EURO.
An initial deposit of 300 EURO is required
at signing of a contract. The remainder of the first month's rent is expected upon arrival.
